Schedule Time to THINK About What You Want: 5 Lists That Will Get You Started

People spend more time planning vacations than planning their lives. Does that ring true for you?

Decide what you want in your life and create a strategy to get you there. It sounds easy, but not so fast! Here are 5 lists you can make that will help you get started. Set aside a block of time to REALLY think about what you put on these lists. Ask your friends and family how they see it, especially with regards to your skills and expertise.

  1. Make a list of the things you do now or have done in the past that you really like doing. What were you doing when you felt joy, inspired, challenged, or a sense of satisfaction?
  1. Make a list of the things you would have liked if something had been just a little different.
  1. Make a list of your skills and expertise. Be as objective as you can and include everything big and small.
  1. Make a list of your dreams. What would you do if money and time were not an issue?
  1. Make a list of the adventures you would like to experience.

Now spread the lists out so you can see everything. Do you see any patterns or repeated themes? Can you connect some items? Think about what gives you joy and lights your fire. Let your heart create your initial outline and let your head create the details to achieve your dreams and goals.
