Perfectionism: 12 Reasons to Kick The Habit

Perfection, we pursue it and pursue it… it doesn’t exist. But I guess you already knew that because you have probably never felt fulfilled by its pursuit. Here are 12 reasons why you should consider kicking the habit… once and for all!

  1. “Research shows that perfectionism hampers success. In fact, it’s often the path to depression, anxiety, addiction and life paralysis.” Brene Brown
  2. “Perfectionism is self-abuse of the highest order.” Anne Wilson Schaef
  3. “Perfectionism is just an excuse for self-criticism.” Sharon Martin
  4. “If the fidelity to perfectionism is too high, you never do anything.” David Foster Wallace
  5. “Perfectionism is a self destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect and do everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimize the painful feelings of shame, judgment and blame.” Brene Brown
  6. “Perfectionism is the mother of procrastination.” Michael Hyatt
  7. “Perfectionism is a dream killer, because it’s just fear disguised as trying to do your best.” Mastin Kipp
  8. “The pursuit of excellence is gratifying and healthy. The pursuit of perfection is frustrating, neurotic and a terrible waste of time.” Edwin Bliss
  9. “Perfectionism doesn’t make you feel perfect: it makes you feel inadequate. Maria Shriver
  10. “Perfectionism is the twenty-ton shield that we lug around thinking it will protect us when, in fact, it’s the thing that’s really preventing us from taking flight.” Brene Brown
  11. “Perfectionism is boring and doesn’t exist, to strive for it makes you uninteresting.” Eva Mendes
  12. “Perfectionism becomes a badge of honor with you playing the part of suffering hero.” David D. Burns

Have you seen the light? I don’t care why you’re carrying around this burden; what I do care about is that you kick the habit so that you can accomplish the great things you were meant to do and to have a life you love. Make 2018 the year you…

“Have the courage to be imperfect.” Alfred Adler
