Perception Matters: Why Your Expertise and Credibility Really Matter

In my last blog we discussed three ways that you can demonstrate to potential clients that YOU are an expert in your area of practice.

In this blog post we will delve a bit deeper into WHY it is so important that you take action to build your expertise and credibility.

Here are three big reasons:

Most potential clients don’t “see you in action” before they retain you. Perhaps you will be fortunate enough to get a high-profile case with major media coverage that allows the public to see you at your best…but more often than not, your potential clients will never have the opportunity to see you in action before they seek out your services. Clients and referral sources need opportunities to see how knowledgeable you are outside of the courtroom and the negotiating table.

Trust matters… a lot. Your clients need to be able to trust you. If a potential client already views you as an expert in your industry thanks to blogs you’ve written or speeches you’ve given, they will already have a high degree of trust in you when they walk through your door or call you for the first time. This makes it much easier to win their business.

Increase visibility. You’ve heard the saying, “If a tree falls in the woods and nobody’s around to hear it, does it make a sound?” It doesn’t matter HOW smart you are and how great you are at what you do… if the outside world doesn’t know about it. Don’t keep your ability a secret!

People hire lawyers that they can trust. It’s very important that you have a strategy to demonstrate your ability and your expertise… so that potential clients and referral sources grow to trust you. That trust will lead to more business and will help you build a THRIVING practice.

Shoot me an email if you’d like to discuss this topic more!
